THE ISIS’ MEANS OF RECRUITMENT: PROPAGANDA, SOCIAL MEDIA AND RADICAL DISCOURSE





Terrorist organisation ISIS, which operates mainly in Syria and Iraq and which carried out armed attacks against security forces and civilians with the intent of establishing a caliphate that is recognised by no country had gained media attention after it captured Mosul.Having increased its activities significantly since 2014, the jihadist organisation has carried out terrorist attacks in many regions of the world and caused hundreds of deaths. Statistics produced by the UN Security Council show that between 2011-2014, 30,000 approximately people travelled from Europe and Asia to Iraq and Syria in order to join the ISIS. In light of this scary figure, the need to examine the ISIS’ propaganda mechanisms and recruitment methods in order to combat it more effectively become apparent.
